CITY GUIDE

Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya is one of Thailand’s great historic cities: a former Siamese capital where temple ruins, royal sites and old waterways still shape the modern landscape. The UNESCO-listed historical park is the main reason to visit, but there is more here than ruins alone. River prawns, boat trips, local markets, museums and active temples give Ayutthaya a living identity, while its compact scale makes it easy to explore over a few days. Close to Bangkok yet completely different in atmosphere, Ayutthaya is one of the easiest ways to add real historical depth to a trip through Thailand.
