Koh Samui’s five public areas are different enough that accommodation choice shapes the whole trip.

CHAWENG

Best for: Nightlife, shopping and maximum convenience.

Chaweng has the broadest hotel, restaurant and entertainment choice.

It is the best fit for travellers who want busy evenings and everything close by.

The trade-off is noise, traffic and a more intense resort atmosphere.

LAMAI

Best for: Balanced beach holidays, couples and relaxed nightlife.

Lamai offers much of Chaweng’s convenience at a slower pace.

The beach is long and the town has enough restaurants and bars for a multi-night stay.

It is one of the easiest choices for visitors who want activity without the island’s biggest nightlife scene.

BOPHUT & FISHERMAN'S VILLAGE

Best for: Dining, evening atmosphere and couples.

Bophut is the strongest choice for visitors who want restaurants, waterfront walks and an attractive evening scene.

Fisherman’s Village gives the area more character than a pure resort strip.

It is social without being club-focused.

MAENAM

Best for: Quiet beach stays, families and longer visits.

Maenam is calmer and more spread out.

Choose it if you are comfortable using transport for busier evenings.

The benefit is a slower local rhythm and more space.

CHOENG MON

Best for: Upscale quiet, families and shorter resort stays.

Choeng Mon is small and polished.

It suits travellers who want the hotel, beach and local restaurants to be the centre of the trip.

For major nightlife or shopping, another area is better.
