About Long Beach & Phra Ae

Koh Lanta’s strongest all-round west-coast base: a long beach, broad accommodation choice, cafés, restaurants and relaxed nightlife without the intensity of a major party island.

WHY THIS AREA MATTERS

Long Beach (Phra Ae) is one of Thailand4U’s public traveller areas for Koh Lanta. It is deliberately broad: the purpose is to group places that make practical sense together for accommodation, dining, nightlife, sightseeing and transport without pretending they are one official municipal district.

MAIN VISITOR GEOGRAPHY

- Long Beach / Phra Ae - west-coast restaurant strip - beach-bar pockets

The exact feel changes within the area, so hotel location still matters. A property at one end of the catchment can have a very different daily rhythm from one at the other.

FOOD

Long Beach has one of the island’s widest mixes of Thai food, seafood, cafés and international restaurants.

EVENINGS

Beach bars and social evenings are easy to find, but nightlife remains casual and spread out.

GETTING AROUND

Taxis, songthaews, scooters and hotel transfers.

Walking is most useful within individual pockets rather than across the full area. When distances are longer, plan transport before going out rather than assuming you can easily walk back.

WHO THIS AREA SUITS

Best for: Balanced beach stays, cafés and relaxed nightlife.

Suggested stay: 4–7 nights.

PRACTICAL NOTES

- This is the safest all-round choice for many first-time visitors. - The beach is long, so exact hotel position matters. - You can explore both north and south without starting from an extreme end of the island. - Do not expect a dense walkable nightlife strip.

The strongest reason to choose Long Beach (Phra Ae) is not that it is objectively “best”. It is that its daily rhythm matches a specific kind of trip. Choose it when that rhythm fits what you actually want from Koh Lanta.
