WHAT TO EXPECT

Koh Samui’s busiest resort zone, built around the island’s best-known beach, its largest concentration of hotels and restaurants, Central Samui and the strongest nightlife on the island.

KEY PLACES

  • Chaweng Beach
  • central Chaweng / nightlife corridor
  • Central Samui area
  • north and south Chaweng resort strips

DAYTIME

The beach, shopping and nightlife are the core draws. Wider island temples and waterfalls are excursions rather than Chaweng attractions.

FOOD

Chaweng has Samui’s broadest dining choice, from Thai and seafood to international restaurants, cafés, malls and late-night food.

EVENINGS

This is Samui’s main nightlife area, with beach bars, pubs, live music and late-night venues concentrated around central Chaweng.

MOVING AROUND

Walking in central Chaweng, taxis, songthaews, ride-hailing and transfers.

FIRST-TIME CHECKLIST

  • Best for travellers who want everything close at hand.
  • Choose hotel position carefully if nighttime noise matters.
  • Traffic can be slow in the central strip.
  • Do not treat Chaweng as the whole of Samui.

GOOD LENGTH OF STAY

3–5 nights.

A good first stay in Chaweng is one where the area’s strengths match your priorities rather than forcing daily trips to a different part of Samui.
