The quieter side of Koh Phangan, combining Chaloklum’s fishing-village identity with northern beaches, marine activities and more remote east-coast resort areas.

WHY THIS AREA MATTERS

Chaloklum & North/East Coast is one of Thailand4U’s public traveller areas for Koh Phangan. It is deliberately broad: the purpose is to group places that make practical sense together for accommodation, dining, nightlife, sightseeing and transport without pretending they are one official municipal district.

MAIN VISITOR GEOGRAPHY

  • Chaloklum
  • Mae Haad and Koh Ma area
  • Thong Nai Pan / east-coast resort side

The exact feel changes within the area, so hotel location still matters. A property at one end of the catchment can have a very different daily rhythm from one at the other.

FOOD

Chaloklum has seafood and local restaurants; remote beach areas usually have fewer independent choices and more resort-based dining.

EVENINGS

Nightlife is limited and relaxed. This is the right side of the island if quiet evenings are a priority.

GETTING AROUND

Taxis, songthaews, scooters and arranged transfers; some remote beaches may involve boat access.

Walking is most useful within individual pockets rather than across the full area. When distances are longer, plan transport before going out rather than assuming you can easily walk back.

WHO THIS AREA SUITS

Best for: Quiet beaches, diving, snorkelling and slower island stays.

Suggested stay: 4–7 nights.

PRACTICAL NOTES

  • Check road and transfer logistics before booking a remote east-coast property.
  • Marine conditions affect snorkelling and boat trips.
  • Do not guarantee the Koh Ma sandbar appearance because tides change it.
  • Distances to Haad Rin and the south can feel substantial.

The strongest reason to choose Chaloklum & North/East Coast is not that it is objectively “best”. It is that its daily rhythm matches a specific kind of trip. Choose it when that rhythm fits what you actually want from Koh Phangan.
