Koh Chang’s most social south-west visitor zone, combining scenic Kai Bae, a strong viewpoint and family-friendly beach life with Lonely Beach’s more independent, budget-friendly and nightlife-oriented atmosphere.

WHY THIS AREA MATTERS

Kai Bae & Lonely Beach is one of Thailand4U’s four public traveller catchments on Koh Chang.

It groups places that make practical sense together for accommodation, food, sightseeing and transport without pretending they are one official district.

MAIN VISITOR POCKETS

  • Kai Bae
  • Kai Bae Viewpoint
  • Lonely Beach / Tha Nam
  • Bailan

FOOD

Kai Bae has a balanced mix of restaurants and cafés, while Lonely Beach adds more casual, budget-oriented and late-evening food.

EVENINGS

Lonely Beach is the strongest mainstream nightlife pocket in this catchment, with bars and social late evenings; Kai Bae is calmer.

GETTING AROUND

Songthaews, taxis and scooters for experienced riders.

Walking is useful only inside individual beach or village pockets. Koh Chang’s hills and distances make cross-area walking unrealistic.

WHO THIS AREA SUITS

Best for: Social travel, viewpoints, beach bars and younger nightlife.

Suggested stay: 3–6 nights.

PRACTICAL NOTES

  • Choose Kai Bae for a more balanced beach stay and Lonely Beach for more social nightlife.
  • Roads become hillier and more winding on this part of the island.
  • Kai Bae Viewpoint is a major scenic stop but parking and traffic can vary.
  • Bailan is quieter and should not be treated as a separate public area.

Choose Kai Bae & Lonely Beach because its daily rhythm fits the trip you want, not because one part of Koh Chang is universally better than another.
