The area around Chang Arena is the obvious choice for visitors attending a Buriram United match.
On match days, this becomes one of the liveliest parts of the city.
Restaurants, cafés and visitor infrastructure have developed around the wider sports zone.
The area also puts you close to Chang International Circuit.
Outside event periods, it can feel much quieter.
If football or motorsport is not part of your trip, central Buriram will usually give you a broader everyday city experience.
CHANG INTERNATIONAL CIRCUIT SIDE
Best for: Motorsport weekends and major events.
If you are visiting Buriram specifically for a race, staying close to the circuit can save a lot of time.
Major events create heavy demand for accommodation and transport.
Booking early is important.
The circuit and stadium sit in the same general part of the city, so accommodation here can work for both football and motorsport visitors.
For conventional sightseeing, however, this is a specialist choice rather than the default base.
KHAO KRADONG / SOUTHERN CITY SIDE
Best for: Drivers, quieter surroundings and access to Khao Kradong.
The southern side of Buriram around Khao Kradong offers a quieter setting than the city centre.

The central location means you are still close to restaurants, markets and everyday city life.
For most visitors, the station side is effectively part of the wider central Buriram base rather than a separate neighbourhood.
OUTER CITY / HIGHWAY SIDE
Best for: Drivers, business trips and road travel.
Buriram spreads outward along major roads with hotels, commercial development and residential areas beyond the central core.
These areas can offer easier parking, larger properties and faster access to roads leading into the province.
They are useful for road trips and business visits.
For first-time leisure travellers without a car, central Buriram is usually easier.
STAYING NEAR PHANOM RUNG
Best for: History-focused trips and early access to the sanctuary.
Phanom Rung is far enough from Buriram city that some travellers may prefer to stay closer to the historical park.
Accommodation around Nang Rong and other southern parts of the province can significantly reduce travel time to Phanom Rung and Muang Tam.
This makes sense if Khmer history is the main purpose of your trip.
The trade-off is that you are no longer staying in Buriram city.

Buriram city gives you better transport links, more restaurants, modern shopping and access to the stadium and circuit.

If you want a balanced first visit, stay in Buriram city and make a full-day historical excursion.
If your trip is mainly about the Khmer sites, staying further south can be more efficient.
EVENT WEEKENDS CHANGE EVERYTHING
Buriram is unusual because accommodation demand changes dramatically around major sports events.
A quiet hotel district can become fully booked during a major football match or race weekend.
Prices and availability can change accordingly.
If your dates overlap with a major event, book much earlier than you would for a normal provincial-city stay.
WHICH AREA SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?
For a first visit: Stay in central Buriram.
For a Buriram United match: Choose the Chang Arena side.
For motorsport: Stay near the circuit or sports district.
For a quieter stay with a car: Look towards Khao Kradong or the outer city.
For train travel: Central Buriram and the railway-station side are convenient.
For a history-focused trip: Consider Nang Rong or accommodation closer to Phanom Rung.

The bigger question is whether your trip is centred on city life, sport or the historic landscapes beyond it.
